What are the common Yaz side effects that have been reported?
Note that not every person who takes Yaz will experience side effects and the majority of those who do experience Yaz side effects will suffer only minor ones that can be easily treated or will go away on their own. Some of the most common Yaz side effects that have been reported include:
• Headaches
• Vaginal discharge
• Vaginal yeast infections
• Breakthrough bleeding or spotting
• Nausea and vomiting
In addition, one of the common Yaz side effects that have been noted is weight gain.
However, studies have not established a direct link between taking Yaz and gaining weight and other women may experience weight fluctuation.
If you suffer weight gain, medical professionals recommend that they take measures such as a regular exercise program,
reduce your alcohol intake and eat a healthier diet with less fat and salt and more fruits and vegetables as well as drinking eight to ten glasses of water a day.
There are also more serious and even life-threatening Yaz side effects that some people may experience such as signs of a blood clot in the leg or lung.
Signs of a heart attack such as heaviness in the chest; signs of a stroke such as severe headache and vision and speech changes; signs of liver damage such as dark urine, jaundice and stomach pain; depression; migraines; high cholesterol and high blood pressure are also in the list. If you suffer from any of these Yaz side effects, you should consult your health care provider to see if you need to stop taking the product or may have to have special monitoring.
Some people who have sensitivity to the hormones drospirenone or ethinyl estradiol may suffer from Yaz side effects such as itching, hives,
unexplained swelling, difficulty breathing and wheezing.
Yaz side effects can also result from negative drug interactions. For example, taking certain antibiotics and birth control pills can cause accidental pregnancy.
If you take the cholesterol-lowering drug Lipitor, you may also experience an increased risk of developing Yaz side effects since the drug may increase the levels of Yaz remaining in your blood. Before taking Yaz, you should discuss with your health care provider or pharmacist what drugs you’re currently taking and the Yaz side effects that may result due to drug interactions.
In addition, there may be other Yaz side effects limited to women with a particular profile.
For example, if you are a woman who is aged 35 and over who is taking Yaz and/ or smokes more than fifteen cigarettes a day, you may suffer the following Yaz side effects:
• Liver tumors
• Cardiovascular problems such as blood clots and blockages
• Elevated potassium levels
In addition, women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not take Yaz since the hormones in the drug’s formulation can hurt a fetus or baby and can also be passed from the mother to her infant through breast milk. Women who have the following conditions should also avoid using Yaz since they may suffer from Yaz side effects: breast cancer, liver tumors, jaundice and cardiovascular diseases.
